We were the only developers available to assess some potential customer projects – so we did some work on sizing and risk assessment for these. It didn't occur to me until afterwards that I had introduced systematic approaches to these task (and that doing a risk assessment was unheard of).

And then: An existing project was overrunning and was consequently short of developers – and the budgets wouldn't permit hiring a contractor. So being the only person in the organisation with Java skills that wasn't already working on a customer project I joined that project for a couple of months.

In the meantime my disciples were handed one of the customer projects we'd evaluated and started work on requirements capture and defining a system architecture.
